From my dell Experience.  If your computer is working, Don't do anything too it, because if you do, It will NEVER work right again.

 

I have an XPS studio 16.  Dell Forgot to Load EVERYTHING that I paid for, and now they are telling me that it isn't covered and they will not give it to me, because I didn't pay for it.  it came with the computer for free, so I need to pay for a new one if i want it, since they forgot to install it.  So it is My problem I bought it from them, not theirs.

I haven't attempted the RAID 0 configuration yet, for three reasons:

1) I'm waiting for someone who has already attempted it to reply to this post.

2) I figure I'd do the upgrade when I finally run out of space on the hard drive that came with the unit.

3) Waiting to get my hands on Windows 7.  If I'm going to start fresh with two new hard drives, might as well go with a new operating system, too. :P

 

Seeing as reason no. 1 doesn't seem forthcoming, I'm inclined to just make the attempt myself once reasons no. 2 and 3 kick in. :)

 

Do you also have an XPS M2010 or are you planning to upgrade a different laptop model?

We need to solve this before we upgrade to Windows 7. Another user could NOT complete the upgrade because this driver could NOT be found.  I believe the person who sent this link was doing an upgrade with an exisiting operating system, so it wasnt a total loss, to stop and continue on with the current OS...(Im assuming this because I didnt hear otherwise..)

However, you and I are going to do a fresh install. I would like to have everything I need before I attempt. Or course a safe option would be to make an image of my current config, transfer to new drives, then just do the upgrade. But I really want to do a clean install, solely for the fact that Dell has installed a crapload of apps that take up precious system resources. I havent had the time or patience to remove each and everyone.

Lets keep in touch. Between the 3 of us, and hopefully a Dell engineer will stumble upon one of these threads, and we'll get some resolution.

WAHA!  Holy smokes!  You serious?  "Cylon"? :D  I haven't named my M2010 (yet), but my friends already insist on calling it "Cylon."  Haha!  Just to patronize them, I even looked for a DreamScene video of a Cylon scanner-eye for use as my desktop background. :P  No luck there though. :P

 

My M2010 shipped out with a single hard drive with the smallest possible capacity (80GB).  I wanted it shipped out with two 500-GB drives, but since Dell didn't offer that, I just chose the smallest drive to save on costs and upgrade to the two 500-GBs myself. :D Besides, if that idea doesn't work, I can always stick with the 80-GB drive and use the 500-GB drives as external storage.  Though I'm sure it'll run on at least one of the 500-gigers.

 

Say, I don't want to stereotype, but you're actually the first girl I know who owns an M2010.  And, well, considering that most male M2010 owners already complain of the model's seize and weight -- again, I don't want to stereotype -- but are YOU comfortable lugging that thing around? :P

OK, That has GOT to be the the most uncanny coincidence EVER! :emotion-3:

It makes me wonder if the XPS M2010 actually IS self-aware, and was named Cylon before we ever bought one. I MUST find that background, THAT would be soooo coool.

I have no doubt that our XPS's will work with 2 -500G. If you only have the one drive, then you will need to get the drive carriage and cable for the second drive if you havent already. They are pretty cheap through Dell part depot. Another good place to look is www.parts-people.com as they carry all things Cylon. :emotion-4:

No offense on the stereotype. I get it all the time because I am a Certified PC Repair Technican. Anyway, I bought the XPS because of its huge size. But I dont lug it around. Its an actual desktop for me. But its nice to be able to move it close to the TV in case I want to stream a TV show from a website on to the big flatscreen via s-video. i also have a sony vaio laptop for around the house, a mini-mac cuz it was cheap, (used it twice, always works, how boring is that!) and a Asus EEcPC netbook for travel and on-site repair appointments... Oh, and an iPhone if I dont want to get the little netbook out.

I did buy a sweet suitcase for the XPS. So if I do need to take it somewhere, it has a telescoping handle and wheels. Alternatively, the XPS handle sticks out so I can use that as well. I would never carry it everyday though. I would look like a crab after a month of that. :emotion-2:

I think the problem may be less with Windows 7 and more with the manufacturer of the Bluetooth transceiver, Broadcom.  Considering that the XPS M2010 and its components are a little bit unique, Broadcom might not have developed Windows 7 drivers for the M2010's Bluetooth tranciever.

 

Hence... Broadcom, HELP! :D

I hear ya on the "crapload of apps".  Though I appreciate the apps that auto-detect problems encountered by the PC, there really are so many pre-installed things that I don't need.

 

Hrm... if that Bluetooth thing becomes a problem with Windows 7, I take solace in the fact that my Windows Vista Ultimate would still remain untouched in the 80-GB that I'll be removing in place of the 500-giger.  If Windows 7 on the 500-GB drive fails, I can always put the 80-giger back. :D

 

 But dang, looks like we'll be going into uncharted territory here.  Think we should wait until another M2010 owner stumbles and learns to circumvent all these things before WE try it?  Mwehehehe. >:)

I havent had a chance to check out the Broadcomm driver, and all I can probably do is email them and beg them to help us. At least thats where I'll start.
