trying holding down the power button for over 4 seconds (maybe more) and it should power off.  Then you can restart it by hitting the power button again.

Dont buy a new battery!.... Just take out the battery.  there should be a small switch you push on the bottom.  use that and slide out the battery.  then put the battery back in, and power it back up

I had a problem similar to that with one of the 5100's and I had to remove to power jack while it was on, then remove the battery.  I hope that fixes your problem.
