Catastropic Power Problem
Insprion 5160
I have been having trouble with the AC adapter staying connected to the plug in the back of the laptop, which lately got worse by having intermitant connection where the laptop would show on battery and then AC power and would frequently and annoyingly switch back and forth. Both of my batteries began to so flash after that.
At first the battery light was blinking 3 yellow and then one green and repeats pattern during operation weither I was plugged into AC adaptor or not. This has been going on for some time but could be eliminated of I ran the laptop without the battery installed. Without the battery in the laptop worked normally except for as noted above.
Yesterday with the battery installed and attached to the AC adapter the laptop died like lack of power and now.......
Now I can't start the laptop at all. The AC adaptor has no green light (yes I checked the outlet).
Using another AC adapter (which has a green light) the laptop will still not start. I get the same 3 yellow and 1 green light flashing.
If I remove the battery and try to use the AC adapter that has the green light I get a different set of flashing lights, both the power LED and the Battery LED flash green at the same time every second or so. The laptop shows no sign of life.
Does anyone have any clue as to what may be going on?
Desparately, Ed

The other is a faulty system board. You can contact a repair shop that will do surface mount soldering to see if they can repair the board - cost around $150. Otherwise, you're looking at a mainboard replacement - $500+.
