CPU speed differences?
Hello all,
I have an Inspiron 8600 with a 1.3ghz Pentium M. In looking at the Bios, I see the chip listed as Pentium M 1.30Ghz/600 Mhz, and have noticed that a field entitled "Current CPU Speed" fluctuates between 600 Mhz and 1.3 Ghz. Is this related to the Intel Speedstep functionality of the Centrino chips? The reason I ask is because I attempted to install a game (Knights of the Old Republic) but was told I did not meet the minimum requirements by the install programm. The minimum req is a 1.00 Ghz Pentium Processor which I believe I do meet. Was this just a situation where my processor was cycling at a lower speed at the time? Is there a way to control this?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

your CPU will adjust speed automatically to save energy, depending what you are doing at the time. as mentioned above, if you change your power setting t "always on" your cpu will run a max speed. Keep in mind that running at max speed will drain your battery faster and your computer might feel a bit warmer.
Also if you plug your computer in the AC, it will run at full speed, and then you should be able to install your game.
