I'm interested in this new model, the D505. Other than the optional 15 inch display, is there much difference from the D500? Does it use the same shell but somehow make room for the larger display? Also, are all D500, D505 and D600 peripheals (drives, batteries, port replicator, etc) compatible?

The Lat-D500, Lat-D505, Ins-500m, and Ins-510m, all use the same system chassis.
These chassis can support a 14" or 15" display.
The only real difference between the D500 and D505 will be the system specifications and configurations.
Generally D-series components should be interchangeable.
You can compare the system specs by looking at the users guide for each system.

I currently have a D600 at work - and before I buy a D505 or D500 (I love my D600 and I'd buy another one but the D500 is a few bucks cheaper, and the D505 has what I really want - a 15" display!!) for home use I want to make sure I can share power cords, drives, replicators, etc. between the 2 systems (more cost savings!). It sounds like that will not be a problem - right?
