Dual DVI with or without D/Dock
I'm about to order a Latitude D620, D820 or Precision M65.
With the notebook in the D/Dock there is only one DVI port and one VGA port available?
Currently I'm using a Precision workstation with a dual monitor setup through a Quadro FX1000 dual DVI graphics card. I'm about to renew my setup and considering a notebook. I don't want to loose my dual (and equal sized!) monitor setup. For this reason I don't want to use my notebook screen (when at my desk).
A few questions
1: Do I need a D/Dock for the dual monitor (equal sized)? If yes,
2: which one do I need D/Dock station or D/Port station?
3: Does the D/Dock/Port feature only one VGA and one DVI? If yes,
4: Is there any difference in display quality (since one is digital and other analog)
To my understanding there isn't a notebook/docking station solution which has two DVI ports, right??
- Thanks very much for your good info.I don't think it's an option for me to buy also the D/Dock and an extra PCI graphics card, I'm bound to the company's budget. :(Did you actually try to have both DVI and VGA connected at two displays? Can you please try that?Can anybody confirm that both video ports use the same feed?

aes2Both the Dport and the Ddock will run two monitors, one off DVI and one off the VGA port, I am currently running a 1901FP off DVI and a 1707FP off the VGA port in extended desktop on a D620 docked with the Intel Graphics.Good to hear.
Would you know if Dell is considering a Dual DVI dock in the near future? Since most (if not all) monitors currently sold are equipped with DVI connectors this seems to me as an ideal office solution.
Although I seriously consider going the portable way, it feels a bit like going back in time from a 3 year old Dell PC box with dual DVI graphics card to a brand new Dell notebook and docking station with only one DVI port.

Hans.BThe dock is just a pass through for the video card so I would think that unless the video card itself would support two DVI outputs having them on the dock wouldn't work, but then again I'm not an engineer:smileywink:- Well, I thought I read somewhere in the specs that the Nvidia Quadro NVS series supports dual DVI output. That's why I'm asking. Looking at how many people in the office are using dual screens these days, this would be a nice feature.Do you see any difference in color/brightness etc. between VGA & DVI output?

Hans.BThe one running off the VGA port (1707FP) looks better but thats because its a better monitor.:smileywink:- I am also ready to purchase a Latitude D620 but wanted to make sure that dual monitors could be supported. I was planning to get a D/Port Advanced Port Replicator as well. I need to keep costs down so I do not want to buy any extra cards, ect.Can someone answer or verify the following?1. Which graphics card do I want to select...256MB NVIDIA Quadro NVS 110M TurboCache or theIntel® Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator 950?2. Can I then connect two monitors to the dport so that when I dock my laptop, I will have two independant displays on the monitors?Thanks.
- So I think I know the answer to this question, but just to be sure. Is it possible to run the laptop lcd, and two external monitors through the replicator independently? I would like to have the lcd, an external running through the vga port, and another external running through the DVI port. Thanks for any help.
