Help my speakers stopped functioning!
So I'm enjoying some Sonic with my Genesis emulator and taking advantage of TV out and audio out. After about 4 hours of play which drained almost all my battery life, I disconnected everything and suddenly my laptop speakers NO LONGER WORK!!!!
The only way I can get sound now is through external speakers or headphones. This makes me SO MAD!!!! I didn't do anything and these stupid speakers just stop working!!! Anyone have any ideas or am I pretty much SOL and have to mail this back to Dell?
If so I'm not gonna bother till December when I get a new laptop.

I would recommend using the Dell Diagnostics disk to test your internal speakers. Just insert your Dell Diagnostics disk into the floppy drive and reboot the system. If you do not currently have this disk on hand you can download a file which will recreate the disk for you from our website. Just go to our website at the following address:
http://support.dell.com/us/en/filelib/index.asp
Insert your system's service tag in the text box labeled "System Service Tag" and click the "Go" button. You will be given a list of files and drivers specific to your system. Click on the "Diagnostics Utilities" category and then download the latest file to your desktop. Double click on the file and you should be asked to insert a blank, formatted diskette. Once this bootable disk has been created, restart your system with the disk still inserted in the diskette drive. The diagnostics program should automatically begin to load.
Note: If your system came with a Diagnostic CD, go into the BIOS and set the CD to boot first, then reboot with the Diagnostic CD in the CD-ROM drive.
If no audio is produced by the speakers then the test has failed. The speakers (or audio adapter) will likely need to be replaced to correct the issue.
To have service arranged if the system is under warranty, you can, 1) contact our Mobile Computing Hotline at 800-822-8965 for Corporate/Government Accounts or at 800-247-9252 for Direct accounts; or 2) you can email mobile_support@dell.com If you do choose to email, make certain to include a brief description of your issue, with your service tag and the troubleshooting steps you have followed.
Otherwise, you may wish to check the Dell Software and Accessories website - they are our Software and Peripherals online store and sell components from other vendors for our Dell systems, as well as Dell-branded parts and accessories.

The "audio" diagnostic test will ask you to listen for some tones and then it will ask you if you were able to hear them. If you answered "yes", then your speakers are functional. If you answered "no", then they are not and the test should have failed.
