I'm sure Dell knows all about this and that they have set aside, say $20 million for a settlement. The litigators will get half, and the rest will be divided among the hundreds of thousands of owners in the form of $20 or $30 or whatever, coupons toward future Dell purchases.

If the power LED is bright on the adapter, it's the mainboard.

    Hey everyone,

Glad to see I am not the only one with junk. I have a desk top that works great. The laptop just quit one me. I reset the battery the first time. Now it won't even turn on. I got a new battery and a new AC adapter... NOTHING!!! So I came on this site to see what I could do to tear apart the laptop to fix it. By reading the problems everyone else has had and seeing that the 1150 is not the only one having this problem, I am contacting the better business bureau. Maybe we can get this problem fixed the right way with out haveing to wait for Dell to see these messages or get out of India and help the Americans that pay their paychecks and keep Micheal Dells Business running in Tenn. Oh, buy the way mine quit after the warrenty. $1500 dollars for less than a year of use. I am not to happy.

If it's less than a year old, it's still under warranty unless you took the risk of a 90-day warranty. Call Dell for a replacement board.

It is over a year old. They would not even give me any real advise when I called them because the warrenty expired..

    Thanks though

I have an 1150 as well and I am having the same problems that everyone else is having.  Mine stop working less than 30day's after the warranty expired, and my sisters went out less than 6 months in to having the computer.  She got her's after me had I known this was going to happen I would have had them replace my battery or motherboard before it was too late.  I have tried to contact them about my computer and they would not help me because I did not have the extended warranty which asked for when I purchased the computer.  You tell me if I purchased the extended warranty for my desktop which I purchased the same day as the laptop why would I not want it for my desktop, they are  more prone to being damaged than a desktop wouldn't you agree.  If anyone know's a way to get Dell to fix the problem's with the laptop power supplies let me know.  It is really hurting my work not having my computer.

YUP, 13 months old.  Just in time to GET SKREWED by Dell.  I bought a new Laptop today, lemme say IT WAS NOT A DELL.  I loved it till it broke RIGHT AFTER THE WARRRANTY RAN OUT.  This is amazing that they are not yet held responsible for this issue.  There is not way of getting the power jack repaired really either.  I have tried to find the part to solder back on.  Why don't they sell the power jack if they are gonna make it SOOOO cheap that it breaks off.  I want a new power jack or a new motherboard.

Same problem here. 6 months out of warranty. AC plug jack in back of laptop started getting loose and finally the solder inside failed. Dell told me I can send it to the "depot" for repair. Seems like a recall is in order for all the postings I've seen on this problem. Obviously a common mode failure due to a manufacturing defect. Checked at local computer repair facility and they had 2 other 1150's with same problem (community of approx. 7500 people). What does it take to get resolution on this? What does it take to get a recall ordered and the defect repaired?

I, too am having 'motherboard problems'.  I called today, after having USB ports fixed and a new motherboard put in, now the whole darned thing won't turn on.  And after the lovely staff members had me take to whole FREAKING MACHINE apart over the phone.... yes, indeed, you DO need to have a technician come out and visit you!  And, they are going to replace the motherboard AGAIN?!?!  Can't they just admit this machine is a piece of poop and replace it?

    Oi to the vey.....:smileymad:

I just took mine to a computer repair place where I live. Mine turned out not to be the mother board or the power source. Mine was the mouse pad. If they hooked up an external mouse it worked just fine. So they ordered the parts on ebay and it only cost $120 versis $500. Sorry something else for you guys to check into. Hope it works.

    Thanks

    Deb:smileysurprised:
