Inspiron 1420 Keyboard - Major problems
So my Inspiron 1420 is completely on the fritz. It started last night all of a sudden when my keyboard began acting completely bonkers. For example, pressing the "volume down" media button opens up an internet explorer or firefox window (depending on what it feels like), various letters minimize windows or open new explorer windows, and other buttons don't do anything at all. Mouse works fine, everything seems to boot fine. Vista says the keyboard driver is working fine. The computer when rebooted seems to act a bit better (the media keys seem to be permanently busted as of now) but quickly degenerates. The computer is not very hot when this happens.
Any help would be rad.

I have had this problem and Dell replaced the keyboard...but the problem came back! The power cord also falls out (it is too lose) and the original power cord was faulty because it kept bringing up blue screen that said the power was not compatible...
Now no one will get in touch with me. They call when I can't respond and despite my repeated requests to communicate via email, they just keep calling and send me a scripted email from India! I want to be reimbursed so I can buy another system (not Dell). I bought this system in January this year!
Help!!!

Sorry to hear about your issues. The best thing to do is call back into tech support and let the technical rep know about your issues with the power supply and keyboard. Also, Dell will not give you any reimbursement. If you end up getting someone to give you a refund it will not be for the full price at all. You will be looking at getting about 10 to 15% back on a computer that old. If you call in the best advice I can give you is to keep a cool head about it and you will get help.

Check the keyboard in SAFE MODE. To enter safe mode keep tapping F8 as soon as the DELL logo appears on the screen. If it works fine try Reinstalling the Operating System. If the issue persists try RESEATING the Keyboard.
