Inspiron 6000 problem:/

Hello, wat's up:P

I have the old model of Dell Inspiron 6000, still works sweet.

But there's something wrong with the back of the connector were the charger goes in.

It's always touching, sometimes the battery accepts the power, sometimes it doesn't, because of this I always fiddle with the connector. Pushing the head of the charger in hard, twisting it and all. I managed to break 2 chargers because of this, I recently purchased a new one, and now being careful not to ruin this one. The thing is, the charger for inspiron 6000, the head that goes in the connector and the neck of the wire, the wire is pretty weak, so the internal metal breaks.

But that isn't the problem, the problem lies inside the power supply thing:/

I took it to a PC repair shop, man told me he couldn't fix it, it requires someone to open the laptop up.

He also suggested that, Dell can buy the laptop from me for £100 and I can use it to get a new laptop.

Is this true?

Any suggestion on fixing this latop? I tried opening up the laptop once, hard O_o!

I'm out of warrantly, it's an old model, 2005.

Hi, we are having the same problem with our Insp 6000, just in the past few days.  Ours is also from about 2005 so I don't want to spend a ton fixing it.  We bought a new cord and it still does not work so it is obviously a problem with the power outlet to the computer.  Does anyone have any ideas?  Otherwise I guess we'll just have to buy extra batteries.....

Xino: if you are having trouble placing the charger into the socket on the back of the I6000, it could be that the solder holding the socket in place has disintegrated.  This socket is connected to the motherboard.  Now, someone who knows what they are doing could open the laptop and solder a new connector in place if the motherboard has not been damaged, this sort of repair would be cheaper than a new motherboard.  This should be done by a qualified computer engineer who has experience of soldering.

Darlene, hope this helps you too.

    Thanks

    But...OI!

    I know how to solder!

Is this sort of solder difficult? because you said an experienced qualified engineer:/

    I'll try again and open up the laptop myself...seriously it's a painO_o

:^/ Limiting such repairs to engineers is a bit of an overkill.

;^) Anyone who feels comfortable with his own previous soldering experience could do it, but it's not a good candidate for one's first soldering experience.  As a good rule of thumb, if you don't feel comfortable disassembling your laptop down to the motherboard on your own, then farm  this task out to someone you trust to do better than you.

Xino:  I am having this same problem with my sister's laptop.  When you have trouble getting the AC adapter to work, does the green light on the AC adapter turn off?  My sister and I both have Inspirion 6000.  Both of our adapter works great with mine but when I plugged hers in, the adapter isn't recognized and the green light on adapter goes off.  How did the soldering go?

Yes the charger adapter green light goes out on me too>:@!

This never used to happen before, until Mr I know it all (My dad). Tried to solder my second charger, then my charger starts to go off occasionally if I try twisting the charger connector to the laptop so it could charge.

Yea, sometimes mine doesn't recongise my own adapter, I normally used to use my sister's Visporn battery charger with mine, it doesn't blow up, nor charge up. It only keeps it running.

And no, I haven't even started on the soldering, I have to take apart the laptop first! O_o

The problem lies in side the connector where the charger goes in, it's the pin.

I wonder if the pin is the same as the charger pin.

Because when I tried soldering my second broken charger, the solder metal isn't the same as the broken metal.

I'm surprised people still have Insprion 6000, the design is slick:P

I finally took the Laptop apart...it was hard.

But not compare to how I will fix them back O_O!!!

Anyway, I have the motherboard on display now, what to do!?

The Power connector doesn't look damaged, I have no idea how to take it off the motherboard except to disolder it:/ which I don't have the tool.

Can i yank it off the motherboard?

Even though I managed to take it off the motherboard, what is there to solder? I can't see any pin, all I see are 2 gold line plates at the sides, some black+silver metal thing protecting where possible the pin is.

If I take this Motherboard to my nearest pc store, you think they can fix it for me?

Because the PC Repair shop I went to the other day, man told me that if there is something wrong with the pin or connector, they will have to order a new one. Postage and and package cost over 65 pounds:/

    Anymore bright ideas?

Glad you got the laptop apart!   How did you get to the motherboard?  I tried to take mine apart and it started to frustrate me to I have up.

Did you try getting the part name and number of the motherboard and connector and then try finding them on eBay?  Maybe you could save yourself some money on parts.    Keep me posted!

I got my laptop apart.  I don't see any damage to the motherboard and looks like the solder is fine.  I found the jack connectors on eBay for about $10.  I'm going to take my laptop to someone and see what they say. If they thinking it's the connector like I think it is, I will go ahead and order from eBay and have them install it.
