How Long will the internal battery keep system alive, if you have No external battery ? Reason: I have always left Lap on AC and only run battery down once a month or so, Well my ways have come to Haunt be. Now I need to go and buy a new battery. How long will it last off of AC and until I can get a new external battery installed. Please don't chastise me I've already Flogged myself 1000 times, Hindsight as they say is 20/20

If you're referring to the CMOS (reserve) battery, it won't power the system at all. It will retain a backup of CMOS memory for a while, but without a main battery and without AC power, will eventually drain -- how fast depends on the system. The disposable button cell batteries will last longer than the rechargeable reserve batteries used in other systems (these charge from the main battery).
