Editing HDV and outputting it thru HDMI in the smallest package possible made the XPS series my choice.

Sounds like the Precision M2300 or M4300 with XP Pro addresses your requirements (no hdmi though).

What exactly are you running, and what are your requirements, particularly in screen size?

 

ANY Dell notebook should run those sorts of programs just fine unless I'm missing something. 

i want a 15.4 inches screen,
light weight, long battery life,
a laptop that wont go to sleep and remain asleep as reviewed on M4300 or M6400 on on product page
a laptop that can remain on for approx. 6hrs
a laptop with excellent graphix card
a very, very good power
a very very potent and strong inbuilt WLAN. a rugged laptop if i may add.

I don't think 6 hours is realistic in any laptop.  Many make long claims like that, but I think you're doing really well if you can get 3+ hours out of one, and then it's usually be turning stuff down to an (IMO) unusable level.  Buy one with the largest battery available, and of course plug it in whenever possible.

 

What do you mean by an excellent graphics card, and what would you be running on it?  The only 15" laptop with a good GPU is Alienware's 15" one that can be configured with an 8800GTX.  Dell's XPS 1530 can be configured with an 8600GT, which is low end by today's standards (though much better than most notebooks have).

 

Virtually any notebook can be configured with the 'N' version of Wifi now.
