M2010 No DVI Output

I am trying to add an external monitor (Samsung 940BW) to extend my desktop and can't get any output from the DVI port.

I have turned off Fastboot... but no change.

I've gone through the usual setup with the display settings to no avail.

Is it possible the ATI display card is at fault, even though my primary monitor is fine? The display card was recently replaced at Dell under warranty.

Hey Jimmy... thanks for checking in.

Yeah, the setup is all pretty straightforward, and I've set up a lot of other systems for myself, so I am pretty sure I'm not doing something wrong in the basics.

The system is detecting the Samsung... I have even installed the Samsung drivers, even though I have never had to do that in the past. I've tried two different monitors, three different cables.

I'm hoping that it IS something silly that I am missing, but after a week of trying, I sure can't put my finger on it.

Is it possible that there is a hardware problem with only the DVI, since my primary onboard monitor functions just fine?

    Thanks again!

Have you gone into the ATI display manager, and set it to extend the desktop?

The screen will blink or do nothing if no monitor is attached.

Hmm... well THAT certainly seems like the magic button I've been looking for!

I will reconnect and give the Fn/F8 toggle a try.....

Any idea what will occur on the primary screen if the external is not connected when you toggle?

I'm trying to figure out a way of verifying that there is no problem with my function key or that I can otherwise confirm that the toggle is working and that the problem is elsewhere.

    Thanks again Jimmy.

Jimmy, if I had to guess.. I would say my function key is dis-functional.

I can't adjust brightness (the arrow keys simply do arrow functions, as opposed to the function key adjustments).

This seems to be shaping up as a good news, bad news scenario.

Is there any other means of accessing that switch or toggle that is normall controlled by the Fn/F8 combo?

Yes, it switches from the LCD to the external to both.

Was it working before they changed the video card? Have you tried using [fn] [F8]?

Unfortunately, I didn't attempt the install prior to the card going bad (which happened in the first 12 hrs).

I would contact support, it appears the DVI connecter may not be working.
