Processor Not Supported
I installed a PIII Coppermine 500 MHz from a Inspiron 5000 into my Latitude CPi R, bios rev A09, replacing the 400 MHz PII that was in it. I get the message "Processor Microcode Update Failure. The revision of the processor is not supported." I go to F2, then Esc, and boot into Centos 4.6, everything runs well. I keep my eye on temperatures, as I expected that might be a problem. I looked into updating the bios. The instructions said to copy the update to a floppy, and etc. This laptop does not have a floppy drive. I know that I can put one in the battery bay, but can not procure said floppy drive. Besides, it would not be wise to flash the bios w/o the battery, as I do not have a UPS. Can I install the floppy drive into the CD bay? I do not think I can flash the bios from a CD. AM I wrong. Is there a bios revision that will remedy this situation?

- Will try flashing from CD drive. I am running CentOS 4.6, as I mentioned in my question. You can flash w/o the battery, but it is unwise to do so, unless one has an uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS). The reason being that if you loose power during the flash process, it ruins the CMOS ship. Granted, newer chips might not be effected in such a way. I do not know, however this laptop is so old, that what I said is true for it's vintage. Better safe than sorry.
