Resolution decrease issue when closing lid
Hi,
I recently got a Dell Latitude D600 and i'm having a couple of video related issues that i can't figure out.
1 - My resolution is set at 1280x1024 but whenever i close the laptop the screen resets to 800x600 and then upon opening it, the resolution returns to 1280x1024. This isn't really an issue except that it completely resets my icons on my desktop. I've searched these forums and can't seem to find a answer specific to this issue. Any ideas on how to keep my resolution set the way i want it while the laptop is closed?
2 - I've tried watching dvd's on an external monitor using s-video but the screen looks as if i'm watching scrambled cable. The s-video works fine with an old laptop i had, so i know that it's laptop related. I've gone into the advanced monitor properties and i can't figure out why i cannot get a clear picture. Again any help is appreciated!
Almost forgot my dell has a mobility radeon 9000 video card (if that helps).
**I go to "wireless" university and the IT guys here don't seem to know what's going on(or haven't had time to address this issue) so i'd really appreciate the help as i can relay the answers on to my campus community! Thanks for all the help!**

I've run into the same issue.
But, have not used any other external displays, or a TVI do remember on some ATI drivers, they used to have a section that addressed saving the shortcut's position on the desktop. The driver for this new D600 does not have that though.
Thanks

I am not sure whether I can help, but I will try:
1) did you have different settings for when the display is through the TV and for when it is through the LCD? THis might be a cause for your first problem - when you close the LCD, the display might be switching to the other (TV / Monitor) mode.
2) Make sure you have the right DVD regional code settings (or NTS, PAL etc settings). This would be accessible when you are connected with s-video to a TV. Go to control panel / display / settings / advanced / displays. click on TV (it should be accessible if you are connected to the s-video out). THere in one of the tabs (I forget which one) you can find the DVD / TV regional settings. This might solve your problem.
Thanks.
