If your screen is xga it is capable of 1024 X 768, and if it doesn't go up that far, try installing / r-einstalling the proper video driver - or get yourself a new set installed and running. You may just be running an OS default driver that runs your screen at 800X600. If the screen is svga (800X600), then even with the proper drivers installed, that is all the screen can bear.
