Screen Dims upon power adapter plugin (8200)

Hi there,
 
I have an Inspiron 8200 which is at least a couple years old.  The screen brightens (normal brightness) when on battery, but dims a lot when the power adapter is plugged in.  This has been going on for a long time (girlfriend was using it but she didn't care - I've started using it now and notice just how ridiculously dim the screen is).
 
Could it just be that I need a new power adapter (Dell V85)?

    Hi,

    Have a look in the Bios, near the back ( there should be about 7 pages ) there is a seperate setting for brightness on battery and AC. Yours sounds like it has been reversed. A duller screen uses less power on battery, hence the setting.
