Screen Flicker Issue
Recently, after closing Windows Media Player (whether it be embed in a webpage or the actual stand alone program), my screen will usually begin to flicker black and will not stop until either Windows Media Player gets reopened or until I log out and log back in. My driver is the most updated version and there have been no changes to hardware recently.
Has anyone else experienced this before?
Laptop is an Inspiron e1705.
- HiWell just a small R&D advice. I would suggest just try installing windows XP professional for a day and update all drivers and see if works fine. If it works fine with XP then it means there is driver problem and not hardware problem. So the problem could be in the driver version you are using for Vista. I feel from the description given that there is some driver incompatiblity only..RegardsKavitesh Singh

Even i faced this problem on my dell Inspiron 640m. The solution is to update your drivers for Intel display drivers from Intel site. The one available at dell site for at least 640m is buddy. I did a clean install of XP and installed the display drivers. It works fine.
Moreover if you have sigmatel audio card. Install the drivers in this order as mentioned below:-
1. Install XP and extract all the drivers provided by DELL on harddisk.
2. Install the patch from microsoft for KB888111 - Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) High Definition Audio class driver version 1.0a available for Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows 2000. Remember you wont get this as free hotfix from microsoft. To get this just extract the Conextant modem driver supplied in your driver disk or go to Dell driver download site and download this .exe for conextant modem. Once you extract you will see this patch.
3. Once the installation of KB888111 is finished. The Windows hardware will detect audio bus. Chose the option to install the drivers and give the path where you extracted the sigmatel audio drivers. The directory chosen should be WDM.
4. After this it will automatically say a modem on audio bus is detected. Then give the path for the extracted folder of conextant modem.
5. Then install the motherboard chipset drivers.
6. Then install the LAN card drivers
7. After this the Wi-Fi drivers
8. In the last install the latest drivers downloaded from the Intel site for the graphics card you have.
This should solve all you problems. In case you have Windows XP provided by Dell it may already have the KB888111 installed as default. But to be on safe side install it again.

Kavitesh Singh. - hi.i had the exact same problem with my e1705.tried dell support to no avail.how i fixed it was installing treaksrus xtreme g mobileforce vs 101.70m6 drivers.no more jerking,no more unstable nvidia control panel.no problems sofar.also if you are concerned about putting something hi performance on your machine,the microsoft wddm drivers fixed the problem completely also,but they don't have the nvidia control panel.hope this helps,it worked for me.

Hi, I've just signed up because I'm having a similar problem. I can't figure out how to start a new thread (do you have to post first?) so I thought I'd post it here
I'm using a Dell XPS M1710 notebook, and for the last few days the screen has flickered like it's in a spasm whenever I start/switch to Windows Media Player (even just playing music) and quite a lot of the time when I'm using Windows Movie Maker. In addition, it has happened a bit during other tasks, such as browsing the web, but not so much.
The first time it happened I thought my eyes were too tired!! Anyway, I have XPS Premium Support but I thought it'd be better to look for help here first because it seems others are having similar problems. All I can figure out is, it might be something to do with corrupted video/audio drivers or perhaps there's some magnetic inteference near my laptop. I keep my mobile phone and my laptop power source right behind it. Would that be anything to do with it?

Nvm. Moving my power source and mobile phone away from the laptop seems to have done the trick.
