Speedstep 100% CPU problem.

I have some problems with Speedstep on my Inspiron 5150, speedstep seems to be working ok when I'm doing usual desktop stuff. But when I'm Compiling, playing games or doing something else that takes 100% CPU speedstep "kicks down" after just some seconds and then "gets up" again.

Its a bit hard to explain so take a look at this screenshot I took from Dell Inspiron Fan Control by C. Diefer.

When compiling this is makes the computer very slow and I think Windows tries to cope with the sudden change in processor speed only making it worse.
Do I need to explain what this does to playing games? ;)

I have BIOS version: A37 and all the newest drivers.
I got the motherboard replaced recently and this did not fix the problem.
I also reinstalled Windows to see if that would fix the problem but it didn't.
I have Windows XP Pro SP2.
I have tried SpeedSwitchXP and QuickSet with different settings without success.
And I have tried settings Always on, Presentation and all the other power settings.

Anyone with some ideas?
Do you think getting a new processor would fix this problem?

Ok, your problem is that your CPU is getting to hot so it throttles down to 1600 MHz automatically.
There is nothing you can do about it except clean the dust buildup behind the heatsink by blowing compressed air before the problem goes any further.

Very nice, I tried to blow some compressed air into the heatsink and lots of dust came out. And now the 5150 runs much cooler and the fan is slow or not sunning at all most of the time ;).

A tip for everyone would be to blow compressed air into the heatsink every six months or something like that.

Great thanks, strange that they did not tell me to do this when calling the Swedish support line.
