Standby Problems with Inspiron 700m
I've been wandering through various forums on this Dell website in hope of finding a solution to my problem but so far i've found none. I have an Inspiron 700m, and until about a week or two ago, everytime I closed my computer or left it for a little bit it would go into standby until I opened it and touched the mousepad. Now, however, if I close the lid it goes into standby for about three seconds and then comes back, even though the lid is still closed. I haven't changed any of the power settings on my computer, so what's happening? Is there some mechanical problem with my laptop? How can I get my computer to stay on standby while I'm gone?

- no problem try this. go to start run and type in msconfig then it should say normal startup diagnostic startup and selective startup. Then reboot and go into stand by. if it works great. that means a program running in the background is causing this Then go to msconfig again and select normal startup and reboot.

I tried running msconfig on mine and still had problems. What fixed it was removing Sonic DLA using Add/Remove programs. This allows drive letter access which allows you to drag and drop files onto a CD-RW but XP mostly lets you do that anyway.
After removing, it stays in standby now. Recommendation came from inside Dell.
