I recently bought a Dell Studio 1558 laptop (which I've been very happy with), but updating my drivers today I noticed there was an "Unknown device" in the "Other devices" menu. I formatted my hard drive (leaving the reserved OEM partition) after receiving the laptop and turning it on to check it booted etc. - I didn't want any of the bloat software. I re-installed the OS (Windows 7 x64), all the drivers from the disc and Dell support in the correct order, and updated windows.
The Manufacturer is "Unknown", the Location is "on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System and there is a Code 2 error (The drivers for this device are not installed. There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.
When updating, it can't find anything, obviously. There is no Driver Provider, Date, Version or Signer.
The Hardware Ids is: ACPI\SMO8800 (next line) *SMO8800
ConfigFlags: 00000040 (next line) CONFIGFLAG_FAILEDINSTALL
Object Name: \Device\00000046
I'm fairly computer-literate, however I've no idea what this is (something to do with the power?). Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

P.S. There seems to be nothing wrong with my laptop without this driver running, however I hate having things like this on my PC!

First of all thanks for this comment. I have this same problem, but when I went to the link you show, it was for 64 bit W7. I have 32 bit W7. Does that matter.
BUT... in seraching for the driver at the location you suggested in dell/drivers..., I discoved how to finally open and install the driver for my bluetotth 365. After a clean install, the bluetooth module did not even show in in Device manager! You solved that probelm for me accidentally.
Now.. how to I solve the unknown device problem mentioned in thee iniial post.

That was the problem. I wish they would have this on the drivers download for the studio. Thanks r0btek!
Yeah, well same exact problem here on a Dell Vostro 3750. That URL which helped everyone here is no longer available.
Will look around some more and while feeling Dell doesnt care anylonger.
And I have a Vostro 3750 resource CD and still unable to install the driver for this.

Same issue on my E5420 Dell, and even worse, the link mentioned in previous posts is now not valid anymore, it has been removed. I am not pleased with this at all :(.Philip_Yip

From what I found when I had the same problem today is that it has to do with the Accelerometer driver. Found info here: http://www.drivershq.com/Drivers/VistaDevices/Dell-STM-Free-Fall-Sensor-Driver/169003/Drivers.aspx
While I downloaded the driver and double-clicked on it...it did not actually install. The solution is to go to the /dell/drivers/ accelerometer folder and double click on the Setup icon in there. That will actually install the driver. Restart.
