Webcam NOT working..

I have a Dell Inspiron 15R N5110 laptop, I loved this computer til I got a notice to download a new version of the Dell Webcam Central when I clicked to turn it on, I downloaded the file and I found that the "effects" you can use when you take your pic did not work, when I clicked each icon for effects, it said pics couldn't be in  the JPEG format and the resolution had to be changed.

I rebooted my computer and I have NO idea what happened but my screen started to flick and when it stopped the icons were large, all print was large and all the colors were like looking at a rainbow and I got a notice at the bottom of the screen that my resolution should be 1366x768 and once I got my screen back to the right size and colors, I check my resolution and it was corrrect.

I noticed that each time I clicked the icon for the Webcam my computer would start to jump around and the big icons etc. would start. I restored my computer back a few days and that fixed that issue, no more jumping around and big icons etc.

When I click my Webcam to be displayed on my desktop, the light comes on for the cam for a split second and then goes off, now, if I use my webcam on MSN/Yahoo Messenger and FaceBook, it works perfectly, I prefer to click the icon for my cam and it can be displayed on my desktop to take pics like I did a few days ago.

I had no problems at all til I downloaded the new version for this webcam,  I have gone to the Dell website to see how I can fix this issue, I have tried different things, but  no luck.

I hope I can get help from somebody online before I call Dell....my computer is only 9 days old and for it to stop working, is very frustrating.

If  you need more info on what I did or didn't do to try and fix this issue, let me know.

                                                      Thanks Peggy :emotion-1:

    Hi,

I appreciate for the detailed description of the issue you provided.
I apologize for the inconvenience that you have gone through. The issue with the webcam may be that the settings are not set correctly. There are 2 modes IM and Capture mode. I would recommend you to check the current mode that is set on the web cam.
If it is in IM mode would suggest you to change it to capture mode which should fix the issue.

    Please try the following steps:
    1. You can manually switch between Capture Mode and IM mode via the mode switch button located at the bottom right corner of the right panel. When the mode switch button is clicked, the following menu is displayed to the users to allow them to switch between Capture Mode and IM Mode:

     2. If the problem still persists please follow the steps in the link:http://dell.to/fd78Vo

Please reply if you have any further questions.

    Thanks and Regards

Thanks for your quick reply on the problems I am having with my webcam since I downloaded a new version..

To change the mode from IM to Capture on my webcam, do you mean that I have to click the webcam icon on the bottom of my desktop toolbar and change the mode once the webcam is displayed on my desktop?  If so, I can't do that because the webcam box does not open anymore, and I have also gone to the link you sent me and have done all I can do to make the webcam work and nothing seems to  work for me.

Is there another way I change the mode since the webcam box won't open?

                                                Thanks.............Peggy   :emotion-42:

    Hi Peggy

I can understand that it can be upsetting when you face issue with a new computer.

I would suggest you to download the latest version of Dell Webcam Software for your Dell computer. You may perform the following steps:

    1. Click on the URL mentioned which will take you to Dell Support Website: http://support.dell.com/
    2. Click “My Account” in the upper right corner and sign in with your Dell My Account in the popup box appears on the screen.
    3. Under “My Software” section on the right side of the page, click "Download Factory Installed Software (My Dell Downloads)".
    4. Click the checkbox that agrees to “Terms and Conditions” of My Dell Downloads website and click “Register System” at the bottom of the page
    5. At “My Download Locker” page, click the registered system that corresponds with the computer on which you are downloading “Dell Webcam Central   Software”
    6. Under “Title” section, look for “Dell Webcam Central Software”. There may be more than one listing for this software title.
    7. Select the listing with the latest version number in “Version” column. Click the checkbox under” Download” column for this software, and at the bottom of the page click “Download now”.
    8. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
    9. Once Dell Webcam Central Software is installed restart the computer.

Please keep me posted with the result.

    Thanks & Regards

Would I be correct in stating that when Dell's Webcam Central has any issues there are NO resolutions???  I got a notice when I turned my webcam on Tuesday that there was a new version of this webcam, I downloaded it and from that point on, I have been having problems with the webcam.

It no longer will display on my desktop, when I do click the icon on the bottom toolbar, it affects the resolution of my computer, when I restart or turn my computer on, my screen will start jumping and then the desktop icons. print, will be huge, the colors are not right, I had to restore my computer back to get my computer to be right.

I am figuring that the compabilities of the Webcam is not right, if I click the webcam properties, can I correct it there?? As soon as I click the icon for the Webcam, my computer goes crazy...I now stay away from it, I loved this feature....

I have NO idea why Dell would install this Webcam if there are problems, it can't be fixed....I have tried all I can try from the support page and nothing has worked...My last resort will be to call Dell for help, although reading many comments from other Dell owners who have had Dell cam issues, nobody seems to get the problem fixed.

Has anybody had this problem and actually got it fixed, please let me know, I will appreciate any help...My computer is only 10 days old and I am getting ready to toss it out the window...I guess I will go back to using my cell phone for the time til this problem is fixed, hubby paid good money for my laptop, he has the same laptop as mine, also got the update for the webcam, was smart enough not to download it and he has no problems~~~~~~SIGH~~~~~~

    Thanks in advance.......................................................Peggy

Looks like I will be calling Dell tomorrow to see if there is a way they can fix my Dell Webcam Central, it is amazing how 1 download can mess up a computer. I have gone to the Dell site so many times to do all I can do to fix it myself..I have run tests and my computer has passed all.

For what ever reason, I can't uninstall the webcam and then reinstall it, the driver can't be found..Where is the driver, can it be found on the CD I was provided with or can I find it in the download driver section of Dell?  If so, what file do I look for??

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium  64 bit Service Package 1, Inspiron 15R....N5110, anybody else on here using this and their Webcam was working when you first got your computer and not isn't...I appreciate any help, when I click the webcam icon on the botton toolbar, light on cam comes on for split second then goes off...

                                               Thanks......Peggy
