I am getting a gaming notebook this summer to take to college with me this fall.  This means at the latest I must have the computer in my hands on August 15.  I will be getting the XPS M1710 with full warranty to keep it safe in college.  This brings my total expense to nearly $4500.  I would hate to spend so much money for a computer that will become outdated by the new DX10 graphics cards only months later.

 

So my question is:  When will I be able to order a XPS M1710 with a DX10 card?  I know that the current DX10 mobile cards from Nvidia (GeForce 8600M GT) and ATI (Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT) don't surpass the Geforce Go 9750 GTX in raw performance.  So in a way, if I got one of those cards I would be downgrading from what the M1710 currently offers.  But on Nvidia's site it says "The GeForce 8M Series for enthusiast will be released in the summer of 2007!" This leads me to believe that a Geforce 8800M is not that far off.  Ideally, I could order my XPS M1710 with a Geforce 8800M (GT, GTS, GTX or whatever) by the end of July.  Does anyone think that there is a chance of that happening?

My guess is that there are no official plans yet.  So we are left to speculate and comment on rumors.  Got any?
