Wireless causes e1505 to freeze during boot

A couple weeks ago my system locked up, so I restarted it.  During boot up the system froze during start of windows (Windows Vista) at the progress bar.

After much frustration I found that if I disabled the Wireless card in the BIOS, the system would boot fine.  But if I re-enable it, I get the same problem.  It also will not boot into safe-mode with wireless enabled.

I have tried...
  • Reformatting and reinstalling windows.  Interestingly, I could not even get the windows install to start with the wireless card enabled. So I figure this is hardware problem.
  • I replaced the wireless card with a new card purchased from Dell (my warranty is expired), but this did not solve the problem
  • I have run all diagnostic tests using the Dell diagnostics CD, and all tests passed.

My next idea is to replace the motherboard, but I'm hesitant to spend a couple hundred dollars when the diagnostic tests say that the motherboard is good.

Any ideas?

I agree that it sounds like a hardware error but if you continue to replace parts of your computer to solve your problem by trial and error, you will quickly spend the entire value of your notebook.

I suggest that it's time for you to bite the bullet and take your computer to a professional repair shop or a Geek Squad and let them fix it for you.  Depending on which model you have, unnecessarily replacing the motherboard could cost you more than half of the cost of replacing the entire computer.

I to am having the same issue with an E1505.  Enabling WiFi prevents the system from booting-up, freezing at the initial start phase (windows bars).  Disabling WiFi allows the system to boot-up and function normal.  Tried removing the WiFi card and examining the PCB contacts, wireless antenna connections and routing (thinking this might be an radiated EMI problem).  No luck.  I may experiment with various methods of shielding - if it is EMI related.  Don't know what else to try.

Is there any resolution for this problem?  I've read numerous threads but nothing short of a new motherboard is ever suggested.  Haven't seen much input from Dell on this subject as well.  Seems there's some embedded hardware problem here with the WiFi, but Dell hasn't quite divulged the reason or provided a solution...at least that I'm aware of.

Any input to this problem or suggestions are welcome.
