XPS 16 Bluetooth not working (Windows 7)

This is my first time trying to hook up Bluetooth devices to a computer. It's an XPS 16 and I have gone into my bios and it says that my Bluetooth is enabled.

I have tried to find a Bluetooth mouse and a Bluetooth phone and my computer can not find them.

Here's what I did to try to find the Bluetooth devices:

Start / Control Panel / Hardware and Sound / Devices and Printers / "Add device"

From there it will not find any Bluetooth device. And yes, I did make the phone discoverable.

Please help me, as I am a Bluetooth noob

Thanks,

Dave

I had the same problem, called Dell and spent $$$ for support.  This computer was only two weeks old.  Tech downloaded a new driver and showed me how to go into Ctrl Pnl and reconnect the mouse.  Sometimes I have to try two or three times and then finally it connects.  I think it is a combo Dell / Win 7 problem and might get fixed within the next 5 years.  I am contemplating going back to a USB mouse and see what happens.  The mouse usually starts working after booting but sometimes it just quits.  Then back to devices and reconnect.

Not much help, but you know you are not alone.

I gave up. But when I bought my bluetooth mouse and keyboard setup, it came with a real small bluetooth USB dongle. Plugged in the dongle and Windows 7 automatically installed it. Then I went into: Control Panel > Devices and Printers, clicked "Add a device" and it found both the mouse and keyboard. Easy as pie.

Some things I was terribly unimpressed with was: I spent over $1,800 on a laptop from Dell (XPS 16 with 256 gb SSD HD, 4gb 1,333 mhz DDR3, i7 1.6 - 2.8 turbo). When I only wanted one question answered "Does my laptop have bluetooth built in?" no one would answer. I had to pretend to buy the same laptop to get a flimsy answer from an annoyed sales rep! Everywhere you look on reviews and the specs for my laptop says it has bluetooth. I'm just unimpressed it seems not to work no matter whay I try. I had to give up and use up 1 of my only 2 USB spots with a bluetooth dongle.

Oh well, good customer service is almost impossible to come by.

I must say, these XPS 16's with the core i7's are an amazing laptop. I play Crysis on high @ 1280 x  720 resolution. I haven't seen a game that I've had to go below high settings.

Glad you managed to sort everything out [yourself!]... but can you confirm you were trying to pair them as per Dell's 'How to pair devices to a Dell bluetooth adapter' guide?

I used the control panel / devices / and kept trying until it found devices.  Then r-click device and used bluetooth tab to connect.  All this after talking with Dell tech and downloading new BT driver.  I still have bluetooth problems time to time.

The new XPS 16 should have bluetooth, but not all do.  Check in Control Panel / Device Manager and see if Bluetooth Radio is listed.

Yes I was trying to pair them properly.

I have tried everything under the sun to get the on board bluetooth to work (I confirmed in BIOS that I do have an on board bluetooth and it's turned on). I have a feeling that it's faulty. If it wasn't for the extremely poor, terribly unhelpful customer service I wouldn't have the doubt in my mind. I tried every bluetooth driver available for my laptop with no results. Once again, terrible customer service has led me to need to use a bluetooth dongle in my 1 of 2 USB ports. Thanks Dell.

Lame lame lame, Dell should supply better customer service for there customers. Just because I didn't buy there over priced extended warranty, I get no response and no help. I can not stress how impressive my laptop is, but how poor Dell treats it's customers after time of sale.

It is not just my experience that has been terrible after time of sale, some of my friends have had absolutely no help in time of need from Dell also.

Extract the driver for the 370 card...

    Get Driver Here

    www.dell.com/.../DriverFileFormats

+++++note that this software installs the 32bit client by default and it doesn't work on 64bit PCs+++++

MAKE SURE YOU RUN the 64bit SETUP FILE Named "Inst" FROM....

C:\dell\drivers\R226750\R226750\Win64 (Where it was on my drive.)

This made me nuts trying to figure the answer out so i hope this helps.
