XPS L702X slow CPU
Hi,
I've just taken my XPS17 L702X back to the factory state as it was having a number of problems. When I try certain applications now (specifically Crimal Case game on Facebook, and Reason 6.5.3) it is running very slowly. I've checked the Windows Experience Index and it's showing the CPU with a rating of 3.4 which seems very, very low to me. The CPU is a Core i5-2410M @ 2.3GHz. I've also got a Dimension E6420 purchased at about the same (end of 2011) and that has a Core i5-2520M @ 2.5GHz which gets a WEI rating of 7.1. Can anyone suggest why my XPS is running so poorly? It's even slower than my Inspiron 15 from 2010 with a Core i3 processor.
I'm sure when I first got the XPS the processor rating was about 5.4 but I can't really remember.
I'm happy to post software versions if necessary. I've done nothing to the machine in terms of changing hardware or software other than to install a couple of applications.

Hi, I checked the BIOS and it says the PSU is 130W which looks to be correct. I can't see a wattage rating on the PSU itself but it's got a part number of DA130PE1-00 so I guess the 130 in that is for 130W. I've occasionally plugged a lower rated PSU in by mistake and it warns me then.
I've got the All CPU Meter V4.7.2 from Addgadgets running with Coretemp in the background and that shows the cores running between 45C and 52C so I don't think it's running hot. It also shows the CPU clock at 782MHz when the machine is idle and 2301MHz when it's doing something. I ran the Criminal Case game for about half an hour and clock speed and temperature were stable at 2301MHz and 50C-52C.
I've also checked the power setting in case there was some throttling in there but I couldn't see anything.

Bit more info. Looking in Resource Monitor the CPU frequency never got above 50% despite the CPU Meter gadget showing 2.3GHz. Disabled Speed Step and Resource Monitor then showed 100% however it made no noticeable different to performance, CPU temp nor the WEI ratings. Search continues ...

FYI My Inspiron is an N5030, the processor is a Pentium Dual Core T4500 2.3GHz and this gets a WEI of 5.8. Pretty sure an i5-2410M should be better than that!!!
