XPS M140 LCD Screen Problem
My laptop screen in the last day started getting a silver tint with a white border that covers approximately 70 % of the screen. I cannot see into the silver tint. This tint will go away for a few minutes and will always come back. I had to connect to an external monitor. Any idea on how to fix without replacing the monitor....or should I say buying another laptop due to the expense of a new screen? Any help would be appreciated.

I had a similar problem on my old XPS M140 where the screen flashes, similar to a static flash you see on TV inconsistently. Sometimes, the entire screen would turn pink or into any color for seconds to minutes. I sent it back to Dell and had the system board, LCD Screen, and LCD cable replaced yet, none helped. I then restored windows and the weird looking flash and screen discoloration never came back. It was a software problem on my part. You might wanna hook your Laptop to an external monitor to see if you encounter the same problem.

If it does, reseat the ribbon cable inside the system. If that doesn't fix it, and it's out of warranty, contact an LCD repair shop - most faulty panels can be repaired rather than replaced.
If the external display shows the same fault, you have a more serious problem - likely a faulty mainboard.
