2001FP - For gaming?

Mine just showed up. I've played a handful of games of UT2004 with it using both the DVI connector and the standard VGA connector. I'm running the following hardware:

Intel 2.8Ghz
128M ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
1G Corsair XMS

I'll admit, there's no ghosting in UT, but there's a TON of blurryness. I've installed the driver on the CD and nothing changed. If I don't figure out the deal this weekend, Dell will get it back.

I've not seen anything different on this flat panel than I've seen on any other with regards to being game friendly. To me, there's little difference between being blurry, and exhibiting ghosting. Neither is acceptable in a monitor in this price range.

If anything changes, I'll post here again, but for now, I'd recommend not getting it if you're a hardcore gamer.

Are you playing at 1600 x 1200? Any difference in bluryness between analog and DVI? What other games have you tried? Is UT2004 the only game exibiting bluryness, or are there others? I have a computer with nearly identical specs as well as a 2001FP and my games run great at 1600 x 1200, but then again I only run race simulations and not first person shooters a la UT2004.

    Thanks for replying.

Yes, I played at 1600x1200 as well as my regular resolution of 1024x768.  UT2004 is the only game I tried, but that's a deal breaker as it's the only game I really care much about.

The blurryness is fairly easy to see in UT2004 if you just look at a patch of grass and move the mouse back and forth.  Instead of seeing blades of grass, you basically see a green patch of blur with some details.  I realize that I don't run around looking at the grass while playing, but that's just to demonstrate the issue.  I played online a little bit and with the blurryness happening, the opponents are pretty hard to keep track of.

Admittedly, I'm fairly picky, but my guess is, anyone that plays fast paced first person shooters on a regular basisis likely to be bothered by the lack of detail while moving the mouse quickly.  Playing last night, it was hard to track the other players because they blended in w/the level due to the blurryness.

UT is blurry @ 1600x1200? I could see it being blurry @ 1024x768 but not 1600x1200...

Yes, it is blurry at 1600x1200.  I've tried using the VGA cable, the DVI cable, forcing a refresh rate of 60, 75, & 85, adjusting the games video settings (default, everything maxxed, my typical settings, & everything at lowest).

It's painfully obvious, I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how other people can't see it.

Based on what I've seen about this model, either everyone else (including gaming sites) is on crack, or there is something wrong with your panel. People are raving about this thing. Keep trying to solve the problem but if you can't, send it back!

Yeah I know. I'd been discussing it w/a member on another forum and he was (and is) swearing there was no ghosting or blurryness.  That + the Maximum PC piece did it.  I placed the other the next morning.

I'm wondering if my 9700 Pro isn't fast enough at that resolution for UT2004.  The guy from the other forum is running an overclocked 9800 Pro.  He's also running a better DVI cable than the one that came w/it.  I asked him to try the cable that came with it to see if it showed the symptoms.

I was starting to wonder if there was a 2001FP, and I had gotten it as opposed to the UltraSharp 2001FP, but I just glanced at the packing slip and it does say UltraSharp.

With regards to returning it, I'm sure I can exchange it, but if a 2nd one exhibits the same behavior, can I return it for a refund and possibly purchase a smaller one w/a 16ms response time?

I think I got the business deal or something like that.  I didn't (and wouldn't) do anything to act like I was a business, I just ordered it from their website.

Thanks for helping me out here.

I'm sure you can return it and get your $ back. I am wondering about shipping though. I think that would be our responsibility. Anyone know?

Your signature states you have a 20" Dell 2100FP LCD, is that a different model, or do you actually have the 2001FP?
