as there's no service-tag-number for monitors bought separately, I tried using my order-number on the "E-mail Technical Support" page (this seems to be the recommended method), but get " Please enter a valid service tag" - does this mean I have to use phone-support ?
Correct. Give them the order number and they can find the account.
* Go here and download and install softMCCS:
http://www.entechtaiwan.com/lib/softmccs.shtm
* Once installed, click Start- Programs- softMCCS- softMCCS
* Use the down arrow to choose the monitor (if you have more than one)
* Scroll down to Preset operations
* By Restore factory defaults, click the green Restore arrow
* The display will black out and then return
* Close the softMCCS box
* Any difference?

- I spoke to support, and they assured me they'd ship a new replacement - it arrived yesterday, but is obviously refurbished (marks on the back where it attaches to the stand, scratches on the connector panel, and it shipped from Ohio, not Texas which seems to be another good indicator)
I've not had chance to try it yet, but I'm not really happy after having been assured it'd be new
I also didn't receive any email information about the replacement, and there's no prepaid return sticker for the old one (at this point, I'm not sure I'll be returning the original one)

Just contact Technical Support, explain the monitor failure, and ask for an exchange.
