i recently did a clean install of xp pro and lost several drivers. these include ethernet controller, sm bus controller, video controller, and usb controller. ive tried reinstalling drivers from my dell resource cd but to no avail. since i cannot connect to the internet directly from my home computer will i need to burn the drivers to a new cd?
my home system is a dimension 3000. im sure i could look up system specifics if they are needed.
You will first need to install the "System Software" which can be downloaded from here.
Next will be the Intel chipset driver which can be downloaded from here. This driver should also cover your "SMBus Controller" and USB controller drivers.
The next driver should be your onboard video driver which can be downloaded from
here.
After that, you can install the other drivers in pretty much any order. The sound card driver can be downloaded from
here.
Your onboard NIC driver can be downloaded from
here.
The modem driver should be available on the CD that came with your system. It will be packaged in the same plastic bag that has the phone cord in it.
sorry for the late post. hectic day at the office yesterday. i took the drivers home and everything seems to be working now. thanks tons.
can i ask another favor. after re installing norton internet security it asking for a product code to reactivate. i cant find this anywhere. is there a way to look this up? as you can prob see i ordered this system last week and paid for a 15 mo subscription. order no. 219878321
When you originally set up your system, you should have been prompted to register with Symantec. If you did, they will have that information and will be able to help you re-activate your Norton software.
You should have received a Norton Security CD. I would expect to find a PID on the CD sleeve. If you do not have a PID to activate, you will need to contact the folks at Symantec to discuss it with them. If you are still under 21 days, you can call the Dell Customer Care folks and ask if they can get you a replacement CD. If you have to purchase a retail replacement, you may be able to ask the Customer Care folks for a refund of the amount that you paid for the 15 month subscription.
im afraid that i decided to upgrade to xp right outta the box. quite literally i took the tower outta the box and put in my xp pro boot cd. if you got any pointers here as to my next move let me know.
