I have a new 1703 FP and the display is beautiful on the flat panels. However, right now I can't run at any higher resolution than 1280x1024. So if you want to run it higher (such as 1600x1200 or higher), so far what I've read is you should stick with the CRT monitors.
I've posted above on this forum asking if the problem is the ATI Radeon X800 XT card or if it's the monitor. A couple of gamers at the EQ2 forums told me it's the monitor, not the card, but I'm waiting for official word. I would not buy a FP monitor again for gaming unless I was very sure it would work just as I wanted it, and I think Dell should tell their customers that the FP monitors are inferior to the CRT in some ways (unless I'm mistaken--which is entirely possible!).
Our monitors ( 1703 FP ) run at a native resolution ( 1280 x 1024 ) only. Cannot go higher, and if you go lower you will see some distortion.
15 inch LCD's have a native resolution of 1024 x 768 or lower.
Dim 4400 ( June 2002 ) 2.6 ghz (upgrade from 1.7 ghz) 768 MB 2100 DDR Memory Gainward Ti 4200 128 MB Nvidia XP Home plus SP-2 17 inch Dell LCD monitor (1703 FP) 48 X CDRW
Before you go bashing Dell or any other vendor, It is in your best intrest to do your homework before making any substantial purchase. A year or two ago I would agree that lcd's were inferior to crt's. That is just not the case today, as far as playing games go, the rule to follow is that you need a lcd with at least 25ms response time, and that might even leave trails in certain games. Dell's ultra sharp displays have a response time of 16 ms! They will only get faster. Thats where your homework comes in. CRT's are still no dought much better for games at the current time, but 16ms rt is way acceptable. I just brought a Dell 2001 fp and it rocks. And as was said in a previous post you should always run lcd's at their native resoulution, it makes all your fonts and icons smaller but there are settings that you can change to get what you are looking for. And in my opinion I would never count on anyone at Dell to give any technical advise on any of their products. I think that they have an answer book in front of them that they use to answer your questions, and if it's not in the book they shoot from the hip. That is providing they are capable of using the English language!! Well that's my two cents. I hope it helps you make an informed decision nbext time
