Looking for DVD Software

I got my son one of the 2407 Monitors.  He's interested in playing movies full screen on this monitor.  Is there any "free" software that will work?  If not, any other software that will let me run movies full screen?  Using 640M 8800GTS. This will be played on his computer.

I can do that too. But I don't know what I'm looking for.  I don't need rippers, I don't need burners, I don't want trialware, I don't want addware. I thought someone with some experience could offer some help.

    Morgul,

Windows Media Player and DME both require plug-ins to view DVD, will not work by themselves.
The view depends on the movie discs, some are only letterbox and no software will display them in full screen.
I have seen VLC recommended  on forums as  a good free DVD player.

    Good day,
    Severus

    I suggest Media Player Classic.
Simple, safe and easy to use.

If you brought the dvd-rom drive and/ or dvd-rw drive with your computer, you got  dvd player software.

To play DVDs you need media player software, but you also need a DVD decoder. This is generally not included with freeware media players (even Windows Media Player) because it requires a licence (VLC and MPC use open source alternatives).

However you may already have a decoder. CyberLink PowerDVD or InterVideo WinDVD are software DVD players that are not free but are often bundled with DVD hardware.

I use MPC (Media Player Classic) - it is powerful, lightweight, will play anything and you can hide the interface. I also like Zoom Player.
