Unrecognised PPID...
Hi, really hope someone can help me, because I'm getting quite frustrated with this matter...
My monitor (Dell 2408WFP Ultrasharp) has had a stuck pixel since i've had it, but it's not too noticable so i've learned to live with it. However, yesterday when I turned my PC on (DVI connection) i noticed a magenta vertical line down the right hand side of the screen. I thought it might be the graphics card so I turned on my Xbox 360 (which is connected via the HDMI input) but it was still there. It disappeared after about 20 minutes, but it keeps reappearing whenever I turn the monitor off for a while.
I believe this is enough to invoke the warranty, which I have issues over, but it really needs to be done now (the monitor was purchased 1.5 years ago).
I am repeatedly asked for a service tag. My monitor does not appear to have one of these. What I could find is a 20 digit tag (which i have seen elsewhere reffered to as a PPID). Upon phoning DELL, I told them this, and provided the PPID. They say that there is no record of the tag in their database.
So what am I supposed to do now!? The person on the phone recommended I ask the company I bought it from (Overclockers in the UK) for an order number. I did this, and they gave me their order number but they didn't have a Dell specific order number. I rang DELL back, but obviously they couldn't do anything with this.
There appeared to be a couple of issues regarding my PPID. Firstly, the tag has two '0'/'O's. The first looks like a 0, but the second looks like a O (it's distinctly wider than the first one). I told them this on the phone, but he said usually they don't use 'O' and only use 0s because of the problems with differentiating them. Also, the last letter appears difficult to read, I couldn't tell whether it was a 5 or an S. However, I told the person on the phone this, and they tried all combinations but nothing came up. They re-read the tag that I had given them back to me, to ensure that they had entered it in correctly, so I don't believe this is the problem...
Has anybody else had this issue before? What do people recommend I do? Obviously, I'm being majorly ripped off here if my monitor breaks and i can't invoke the warranty.
Thanks,
Nick Moores
