how can dedicated storage node use library?

Networker 7.6 sp1.

I have two standard storage nodes and two dedicated storage nodes in Windows envirnonment, one tape library and storage (and licenses for tape and disk backup)

Since I can't configure dedicated storage node to use the same library that storage nodes use to backup other backup clients (or can I?), I have configured it to do backups on disk.

How can I move backup done on disk to the tape?

Is there a way to configure two windows servers to use same disks (SN and DSN)?

    Hi,

You can use the same library, but you'll need Dynamic Drive Sharing licenses (one per each shared tape drive). And you can move data from disk to tape thru staging feature (standard in Networker). Finally, if you want to use the same disk under Windows OS (I assume "same volumes") you'll need third party SW, like Metasan (Tiger Technology) or StorNext (Quantum).

    Regards

    Hi!,

I have 5 dynamic drive sharing licenses (three tape devices are in use)

DSN can see library and one tape device (SAN zoning is set that way)

But, if i try to configure device, I get error "Cannot create device; storage node enabler required"

How can I configure DSN to use the tape?

    Thank you in advance!

    Hi,

Check the License Conformance Summary in the configuration menu - this might give you a clearer picture of what's going on with your licenses. Also, check that the Dedicated Storage Nodes are configured as such - see:

In past, and probably now, both GUI and jbedit would create device on dsn, but they didn't had flag in for dsn.  If you use jbconfig that it is ok.  Another workaround is to temporary use temp sn license, add drive and then change config to dedicated one from GUI as noted in previous link.

    Thanks!

I used temporary SN licence just to configure library, than changed tape to DSN

    Best regards!

You can configure your dedicated storage nodes to use the devices in the tape library; however you would need a DDS license if you wish to have the device(s) available both to the dedicated storage node and the storage node, which would usually be the case; you would then create two disk devices with paths from both storage nodes (Networker would know these are the same device as they would have the same hardware ID value).

You can either copy the data from one piece of media to another (cloning) or move the data from one piece of media to another (staging).  You can either clone/stage data within the GUI or use the nsrclone/nsrstage command.  Data backed up to disk is usually more convenient to recover from; data backed up to tape is more convenient for offsite and long-term backup.
