Management Console Throws Java Error

I tried to log into Management Console this morning, and I received an error that it could not connect to the database. It tried a few more times, then I received an error from Java Web Start with the following:

An error occurred while launching/running the application.

Title: NetWorker Management Console on
Vendor: EMC Corporation
Category: Unexpected Error

Unexpected exception: java.lang.NullPointerException

It also showed the exception trace, which I didn't paste in because it takes up a lot of space. I recently updated Java on the server because the change in DST was causing the backups to start an hour earlier. This is probably the first time that I've tried to start NMC since updating Java. I'm now running Networker 7.3.2 jumbo with JRE 1.5.0_10-b03, which seems to be ok according to the documentation that I read. My understanding is that 7.3.2 works with 1.5.x, but something isn't right.

    Go to cmd and do:
    net stop gstd
    net start gstd

    and try to login again.

I tried clearing the cache, and it didn't work. Still get the same error. I noticed that the second error I get says "Internal Error: Unable to get database handle". I hadn't noticed that error before. I think all of the services are running - I see EMC GST Service, NetWorker Backup and Recover Server, Networker Power Monitor, NetWorker Remote Exec Service - all running. There is a NetWorker Host Agent that isn't running, but it's set for manual, so I assume that it's not needed at this time, or else it would be running.

Are you sure NMC was running? Under assumption that it was you could call javaws and clean cache - that usually helps with java jammed applications.

That did the trick! I had thought about rebooting the server, but there are some other fairly critical apps running on it, and I didn't know for sure what services were involved with NMC. Thanks!
