networker 7.3.2 savepnpc problem

I have networker server loaded on a Linux (read hat Enterprise) a client loaded on a AIX 5.x

Trying to get the savepnpc (save_cold_DB_Backup.res) to shut down 1) Oracle. 2) the have Networker do its backup of the downed Oracle. 3) bring up Oracle.
I have scripts that will bring down and up Oracle. I have made a save_cold_DB_Backup.res with these two scripts inside it so networker will be able to call them up and execute the client in networker and its group is setup the scripts name save_cold_DB_Backup.res is in the backup command area in the client setup on the.

I can run the shutdown and startup scripts from the AIX server and they do shut down and startup Oracle.

The save_cold_DB_Backup.res is in /nsr/res on the AIX server.

Problem it is not running the scripts

cat save_cold_DB_Backup.res
type: savepnpc;
precmd: "/oracle_stage/scripts/stop_start_11iAIX/RTD_shutdown_db.sh p10g > /dev/null 2>&1";
pstcmd: "/oracle_stage/scripts/stop_start_11iAIX/RTD_startup_all.sh p10g > /dev/null 2>&1";

The group name and client name are different from each other as is the name of the save_cold_DB_Backup.res.

I do not see what I am doing wrong?

    Yes, you should use full paths.

    The group name and client name are different from
    each other as is the name of the
    save_cold_DB_Backup.res.

    I'm a bit lost in translating this... What do you mean under that? Your res file should have the exactly same name as your group has (case sensitive if I remember correctly). Also, for start try to remove all those redirections from res file - it is known that might cause an issue and there used to be article in KB on that subject (perhaps even now, didn't check).

    Did you checlk savepnpc log if it gets executed in first place?

    As said above, verify:

    1) If "save_cold_DB_Backup" is exactly the name of your Group.
    2) The contents of the /nsr/logs/savepnpc.log file, and see if there's any kind of errors there.
    3) Verify if the user running Networker in the system has the rights to run those scripts (you should consider to not use /dev/null as output, but send this to a file, at least while you're trying to configure it).

    It does not matter which OS is your client, to use pre and post commands, you must use "savepnpc" in the Backup Command in the client configuration.

    Your .res file will always have the same name of you group, like:

    Group: save_windows_weekly
    File: save_windows_weekly.res

    I am not getting any logs for savepnpc.log under /nsr/logs/
    to set this up in AIX do I need to do something? Maybe like in Windows when I put in the savepnpc command in to the GUI, client, backup commands. I do not see any AIX command to do this with in the command prompt on the AIX client.
    I am a newbie to this. Will be going for training in Jan.
    I have to have the word save in front of the group name ending in .res so the name is not fully the same as the group. ie. save(group name).res

    What you said made senses to me, I have.
    Made a new group save_cold_orcale made a new client under it and in the Backup Command used savepnpc (all this is done on the networker server under administration).
    I had removed all of the .res that I made on the client (AIX) /nsr/res and have only the two .res that I did when I started nsrla.res and nsrwizclnt.res.
    I have run the group save_cold_orcale. I thought I would see a new save_cold_orcale.res in the client (AIX) /nsr/res directory. As this is the first time this group was run with a savepnpc Backup Command.

    I have no /nsr/logs/ savepnpc logs.

    Put back in to /nsr/res/save_cold_orcale.res and re ran the group save_cold_orcale.
    No logs and I got a Probe job had unrecoverable failure(s) on the backup directories

    I do not think I should out in the savepnpc on the AIX networker client as I do not see how to do that and everything else I read said put it in the administrator of networker which to me is the networker server administrator.

    You're right, the first time a backup (with savepnpc) runs, it creates the groupname.res file.

    Now, this error "Probe job had unrecoverable failure(s)" can be a lot of things, but you should verify:

    1) Networker server can ping/nslookup Networker client (and vice-versa)
    2) Networker service in the client is up and running

    savepnpc is the same for all systems - just follow the instruction and everything will be fine.

    Try to remove savepnpc and run backup again - just to verify that everything else is ok with setup.
