It will not be possible to install NW server 7.6 on top of client 7.5.
Please note that NW 7.5 SP2 and 7.5 SP3 are currently the only supported version of NetWorker on OS Windows 2008 R2.
So at the moment you will have to perform a downgrade as you call it. Please also be informed that I will not be able to tell you whether this supported or possible at all.
It could be the case that you will have to setup your environment with NW 7.5 SPx newly. Probably you may get clarification about this from EMC support only.
and how do I downgrade NW? Or can I install server 7.6 and client 7.5 on the same backup server (assuming that it's a client issue)? I just inherited the environment (100+ hosts, MSSQL and Oracle integration) and would hate^H^H^H^Hregret it if I had to reinstall this backup server.
For downgrading you need to do a partial uninstallation of Networker 7.6 and need to install Networker 7.5.x. You will find more information (Uninstalling and installing) from the Installation Guide which can be dowloaded from powerlink. Before you proceed with the downgrade, make sure you have a proper Bootstrap backup just to be in safer side.
