NMM question (Exchange 2010 DAG)
Hi!
I set up NMM backup with Exchange 2010.
Exchange 2010 is configured with DAG.
The problem root is the following:
In this environment we have two Ex2010 servers.
One is in production side second is on dr side. They are DAG members.
The prod server run the Active database the disaster side running the passive db.
When the primary side goes down, database goes to disaster side,
customer dont want to backup the database because data must travel
via weak ethernet link.
So the customer want to backup only the server which are on the prod side.
In this configuration can i backup Exchange 2010 as a standalone production server with NMM?
(I dont give DAG name in nmm options)
Current setup is:
Dag setup: One group which contains one server, which is the prod server.
Dag client is configured.

Hello Paul,
You cannot backup Exchange 2010 DAG as stand-alone, as NMM will detect that the DB's are replicated.
You need to backup one of the nodes.
If you want you can backup production node, there is no need to backup the 2 nodes.
In that case, if you want to configure the backup only through one of the nodes, you need to use the specifications described in the following KB for scenario2:

Basically you need to install NMM in the 2 nodes.
Create a client entry for each nodes plus a third one for the DAG itself, but only the node in production will be scheduled for backup, the DAG won't be member of any group and the node in DR site will be included in the same group but not scheduled, as the backup will never run against it.
Set the variables accordingly to what you want to backup (NSR_EXCH2010_BACKUP=all)
