nsrindexd process

Hi

recently I have noticed  lot of backup jobs  for some  groups particularly running RMAN backups  are not getting completed There is no activity happening on the Networker server for this groups and the  RMAN log is also stuck at   messages like

"channel t1: starting piece 1 at 16-JUL-2014 11:30:19...." and

"waiting for snapshot control file enqueue...."

I checked and found a lot of nsrindexd processes related to these servers   running on the server. like below which seem to be from earlier sessions.

"/usr/sbin/nsrindexd -a ADD  ......"

"/usr/sbin/nsrindexd -a READ ....."

Can these processes be causing  some issue and can I kill these processes directly

Any information is appreciated

TIA

These processes are there for each session and they update your index file.  Nothing wrong with them.  Your problem is on Oracle side as further backup can't proceed until snapshot queue is not made available. Do you have parallel backup jobs?  If so, they may (first one usually) hang and lock the others (typically you may see failure for snapshot enqueue not available if you try to save at the same time control file for both DB and ARCH backups if it comes to that).  If you are Oracle admin, you can run SQL query and check on what snapshot enqueue is locked (if you google you error message you will find it too).
