I've been having some problems with full backups to physical tape not getting logged in the Indexes for some reason. For instance, I can see under Media, Volume Name, that a backup was completed and can see all the save sets on the physical tape. However, when I look under Media, Indexes, Client Name, Index Save Sets and click on the appropriate Save Set, there is no backup listed for the appropriate date. I don't understand why it is not listed.
So, what I have done a couple of times to get around this issue is run the following command, "nsrck -L7 -t " In the past this has completed faily quickly and has updated the Index. However, the past 3 or 4 times I've tried running this command I receive the following message in the NMC. "reading, moving forward 115 file(s)." When I receive this error, the process just seems to sit there for hours and not do anything.
This is a bit contradictory - you state that you are not getting indexes but then state you run nsrck -L7 okay (which is recovery of a client index backup). The problem may come from some confusion about where the indexes are coming from - they are not stored on the client but on the backup server so that is where they come from...
I would suggest first of all taking a look at the savesets the savegroup has backed up on its completion and verify if there are index savesets there or not - if so it is something to do with how you are gathering the data that is flawed; if no you may have the No Indexes option ticked in the savegroup resource...
It does seem that after doing some more research the "Store Index Entires" check box was not checked under the Media Pool. I think that might have had something to do with my confusion.
