SAP brrestore past backups
Hi,
Trying to do a restore of a SAP ECC system, Networker 7.5, NMSAP module for oracle 3.5, on Solaris. I am happy that connectivity to the tape robot via SAN is fine. As I can use the recover command successfully etc.
The problem I appear (or think I am having) is that when brrestore runs it does not seem to query the index as I would expect/like. It only queries what is the current up to date backup and cant find a file that is in the index but a past backup, so you get:
BR0386E File '<SAP file from previous backup>' reported as not found by backup utility
Whereas if I run recover and use changetime etc I can find the files. SO I can restore, but it is a painful process. I would expect brrestore to just do it all for me. This way I can be a lazy sysadmin and get the SAP admin top do it without annoying me!
Any assistance/experience appreciated.
Ian...

After much reading and poking around I have solved my own problem.
It was a permissions problem on the directory on the receiving host. Could not write, so the error message "reported as not found was misleading". I can tell you with NMSAP module 4.0 the message is still vague but not as misleading.
But the most helpful thing I found out. Many responses to questions said something like "look in the legato/networker logs", this is hard as SAP has logs, the Networker Server has logs. The backint logs by default are in the directory:
/nsr/applogs
Specifically backint .log.raw
In our case, I think for historical and bad initial setup of SAP, we had backint setuid adm, while the files are owned by ora . In the past the ownership of files had a mixture of these SAP users, hence the setuid. Now we have a clean new ECC 6 system the permissions and ownership is correct.
Hope my experience helps others.
