Dell Powerconnect 6248 SCOM 2012 integration

Hi, is there an easy way to monitor our 6268 without using 3rd party software? Using SCOM 2012 I can see the switch as long as the interface but I have no data in the performance dashboard. I only see my swich latencies that's it... I overrid the rule to perform the analyzis of a specific interface but no data pouring in.

Thanks if anyone has got an idea.

Regard,

Cédric

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply but I was refering to the Microsoft software System Center Operation Manager. It appears that there is no native Dell switch support on their product and therefore we must get a 3rd party software such as Quest. I was wondering if there is an easy way to perform bandwith monitoring for those switches (using the MIB?). I already can see the latency but nothing comes up when it comes to performance. I already selected the ports and show it's ok but I guess because it's not supported I can't get any value... Does anyone using SCOM?

    Thanks

    Hey Cedric,

    I'm curious if you were ever able to get SCOM to work with your PowerConnect switches.  It seems I'm in the same boat.  We were using SolarWinds Orion, but the cost of maintenance renewal has gone up, and we already use SCOM for server monitoring.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,

    No I didn't manage to get my switches work with SCOM 2012. Nevertheless I'm using instead Dell Open Manage Network Manager but still monitor those switches with the SCOM Ping utility.

    If you find something, let me know.

    Regards,

    Cédric

    Well, I just found something interesting.  We are trying to discover switch using SNMP and ICMP, and we only ever received "No response SNMP" even though we enabled the local windows firewall exceptions for Operations Manager discovery for ICMP and SNMP.

    I starting a packet capture while running the discovery rule, and I saw that SCOM was trying to connect to the switch via port 137 UDP (NetBIOS?!?!?).

    8701 12:18:23 PM 1/11/2013 52.5525750 10.10.10.1 10.4.1.28 ICMP ICMP:Destination Unreachable Message, Port Unreachable, 10.10.10.1:137 {IPv4:135}

    10.10.10.1 = PowerConnect 6224

    10.4.1.28 = SCOM server

    For giggles, I added an exception for inbound and outbound UDP port 137, and my PowerConnect switch moved out of the pending management category.  Now, I need to see if SCOM can see the ports, VLANs, etc.
