Accessing the Internet

I haven't been able to access the internet since January 18, 2004. I've contacted Dell several times and each time they direct me to take a different step.  I've ipconfig'd everything that i could. I've maybe called around 20-30 times. The last time they told me they've tried everything and they know of nothing else that they can do? All the steps never work. I'm connected to a networking system throughout the dorms at my college. My roommate's connection works with her ethernet net cord on my connection but when I use her ethernet cord on my computer to my connection, it still doesn't work. I've even used her cord on her connection and it works, and her computer on my cord to her connection and it still works. I've reinstalled windows xp and reset my whole computer. It still doesn't work. Dell told me I need to set up another connection because my roommate has two connections. One is the LAN and the other one is a network bridge. I dont know how it goes upon making a network bridge, but the computing helpdesk at my school said you only need one connection to connect to the internet. I've tried everything I can do, I'm stuck. I need help getting on the internet if anyone knows can you please help?

I don't understand what you mean by "my cord/her cord" and "my connection / her connection".  Are you just trying plug your cable into different wall jacks?  Have you tried reinstalling the drivers for your ethernet card?  Which model computers and which model network card do you have?
