ActiveX issues?

Hello-

I had a couple of issues with my new Inspiron 630M laptop.  I think it may have to do with ActiveX -

1) when i visit certain websites, a popup internet explorer notification shows up - "click to run an ActiveX control on this webpage"   .... what does this mean, and what can I do to prevent this box from popping up continually to my annoyance?

2) i'm only postulating that this has to do with ActiveX - on an online poker site, there typically is a function that when you hover over a person's name, a popup window will appear and display information.

Something similar will happen with AOL Instant Messanger - if you're to hover over any given screen name on your buddy list, more information should appear in a pop up "bubble".

however, with my laptop, these things do not appear.  could you give me any advice on how to fix this?   Sounds petty I know, but I just want to know the root of the problem, and have more understanding.

Thank you-
Chris

    1. is really a safety precaution built into sp2 to prevent questionable sites from automatically installing active x on your pc.

    Open Internet Explorer.
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
On the Security tab, click Custom Level.

To turn off the Information Bar for ActiveX controls, in the ActiveX controls and plug-ins section of the list, under Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls, click Enable.
