Broadcom/Belkin - still problems?

After I purchased my Inspiron E105 last year, I was terribly disappointed to find out that I could not connect with the built-in Broadcom Draft-n wireless card at ANY speed to my Belkin Pre-N router. Yes, I know they are different standards, etc., and I have searched this and other forums extensively. However, is there a firmware/driver upgrade for either the router or the built-in card that I'm missing that might get me on track? I was hoping by now there would be a solution. Like others, I was assured before purchasing that everything would work well. I contacted Dell about this via phone last year, but actually ended up talking to someone who condescendingly, and rather rudely, assured me that I was doing something wrong. After asking other local "gurus" and searching myself, I found out it was a common problem. I'd hate to have to spend more money right now for a new router, but the time has come for me to move my computer away from the wall where my cable connection and modem are tethered. I've been extremely disappointed, both with this problem and my customer service experience. If no new drivers are available, nor firmware, is there a decent pre-n/whatever card that I may swap out of my notebook? Any chance Dell might offer any component exchange? Thanks for any help, and so far I really enjoy reading the forums. Please excuse me for being a newbie and if my protocol, etc., aren't up to par yet. Thanks again, H

I've seen different issues with the various Draft N cards. However, the N cards should still also be capable of B and G connectivity. Check your router to see if it is possible to "hard set" it to use one of those modes. Look for something along the lines of "G Only" mode. After that, you should be able to configure the wireless card to also attempt connecting at G only. That often times can solve the issue. I believe you'll have to make that change via the Device Manager, by going into the properties for the wireless card.

    Thanks,
