Hello all, new to the forums hope you guys can help me
I have a Dell Inspiron 518 with Windows Vista 64 bit. After getting the computer up and running after a power issue the computer gave me a message saying successfully installed some sort of human interface which I dont remember installing, after this message I lost my wireless internet connection. When I open the connection dialog box it says "windows cannot find any networks". I live in an apartment building and on any given day with the computer in the same location it's always been I can see at leat six different wireless connections however only use my own home network. Troubleshooting with windows suggested the wireless switch was turned off, my computer has no such switch. When I manually try to set up a connection it tells me that one already exists. In my device manager there was a yellow exclamation point next to my network adapter, though I cant roll back the driver and trying to update says it's already up to date. I tried to system restore the computer and it failed then tried to undo it then that failed. The other night I restored the computer to the factory image and figured I would start from scratch and I'm still having the same issue Windows cannot find any networks. I hope there is a simple solution to this someone please tell me what it is.
When you say install the drivers does this mean I have to install them manually, after the image restore everything in the device manager seems fine no yellow exclamation points or anything and the computer is even running and starting up faster but there is something prohibiting me from being able to find any wireless network and connect
If you recently did a clean installation, then you'll need to install the desktop/notebook system utility and the chipset drivers first or the rest of the drivers will fail to install. If you would have run the items in my post, I could have helped to located them for you.How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order
This is where I am now, originally when I started having problems I tried a system restore and selected a restore point however it failed when the computer came back on after it attempted to go to the restore point I selected It brought up a dialog box that said the system restore failed then I tried to undo it then the undo restore failed. After the system restores failed I did the factory image restore under f8 and that's where I am now, the computer has been restored to the factory setting though I still cant pick up any networks
My ipcofiglog/all: I hope you can make sense of it, copying it from the clipboard added "\par" to everyline. I see that it says No for Ip routing and few other things or media disconnected if these are whats causing my wireless connection issues can you please tell me where to go or what to look under to fix this. According to my computer manual I have an internal wireless attenna or something of the sort and have never connected in the past using any sort of cable.
Did you recently install the operating system? You mentioned about a power issue. Did you try powering off your ISP modem/router and your wireless router(if any) Wait 30 seconds, then power on the ISP modem/router. Wait 15 seconds, then power on the wireless router(if any) Restart your computer and try to connect.
I see the wired connection, which is the Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E
The operating system Windows Vista has remained the same the power issue I mentioned having was with the computer itself when I went to turn on the desktop the other day there was a solid blue light and no beep after fighting with it for a while it came on normal gave me an error code saying it failed to boot properly then the human interface driver message which prompted my system resote and initially factory reset.
I saw the wired connection Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E, in the log as well, I'm not actullay sure what this is, I'm not sure if it's the internal wireless device or what have you my home router is a Linksys router the same one I've been using for the connection for a while now.
My virus program was Norton though since the factory reset it was restored to McAfee

So after the factory image restore, are there any bangs in the device manager?
