Connection Intermittent! Help!

I purchased an E521 running Vista and have been using for 2 weeks. Everything was fine until 2 days ago. I started having trouble both keeping my internet connected and loading with any kind of speed. I have DSL and both my DSL modem and my ethernet cable have now been replaced to no avail. Of course when the tech person from my ISP was here I had no issues and was able to connect with speed and ease at every site I tried. I have also spent several hours with my ISP tech support line clearing the cache, doing ipconfig commands, shutting off the MacAfee firewall, etc. and nothing is working. There is no rhyme or reason as to when it will or does stop working. Windows Network Diagnostics continually tells me to I need to reset my modem or that it is a problem only my ISP can fix. I am not very experienced in this area so any help anyone can provide would be much appreciated.

The answer is simple - have the ISP tech move in! :)

Seriously tho, I am not familiar with Vista, but perhaps here is some kind of patch or update for this. Do you have a 2nd PC, or a friend's PC to test it with? This could help you determine if the problem is ISP/modem related or on the PC.

I have been reading these boards all night and have tried a couple of the things others have suggested. I have uninstalled McAfee entirely and found a link dealing with Vista and IE. Not sure if any of this is going to work or not. I still haven't shipped my old PC back to Dell (I think for this exact reason) so I could probably do some testing using that. What's so frustrating is I won't know if I've fixed anything or not because the problem is so random. I am pulling my hair out here...thanks for the support! :smileysad:

Just want everyone to know that yes, indeedy, McAfee WAS the problem. Once I uninstalled it, I have had no additional issues. Sad that pre-installed software causes so many frustrating issues. Dell may want to consider a partnership with another anti-virus provider...:smileyindifferent:
