Enabling Wireless Connection using WEP

I'm having trouble connecting to Wanadoo Livebox using WEP. I can get a connection OK if I leave the Authentication open and Data encryption set to none; but as soon as I try and change change it using the 26 digit WEP code it drops the connection and will not connect until I change it back. I've checked Wanadoo's own help Article 45 which deals with third party wireless cards but this assumes set-up using XP rather than the Dell utility. I have cribbed the instructions from there so there may be another setting I'm missing?

So why don't you use Windows to configure the wireless network rather than using the Dell Utility?

I tried that despite the fact that both Wanadoo help and MS say if you've got utilities for the card then use them not the Windows configuration utility. Notwithstanding, I get exactly the same problem using XP

On the wireless network setup on the computer are you using the hex key rather than the pass phrase?  Normally when you have network card and router from different manufacters you need to use the hex key rather than the pass phrase.

Thanks for getting back to me Steve
I've been using the hex (26 character Code?) as on the Livebox. The same code works with the USB external card supplied by Wanadoo. There is no password as such. Any further thoughts

Which wireless network card do you have?  Have you tried updating the drives for that card?

Dear Steve, thanks for your continued interest.
I have an Inspiron 1300 Laptop. The Card is a Dell 1370 WLAN mini PCI card. I have downloaded the latest driver, all that seems to do is make the user interface a little bit slicker, it hasn't made any difference to connectivity. I have logged an email support call with Dell which may produce fruit sometime soon. I'll post their comments so you can see what they suggest
