Hello all, I've just received my new Dell computer but I seem to have forgotton to chose a modem when I was placing the order so therefore cannot connect to the internet!!
I'm new to this so please bear with me.
Can I purchase an external modem so I don't need to send my whole PC back to get an internal modem installed?
Is there a certain modem I should be looking to purchase (cheaper the better really). I live in the UK and I am waiting to connect to TalkTalk broadband, and have been told I will receive a modem through them (ADSL 2+ modem) so should I just wait for this and will it do the same thing as an internal modem??
If you are going to have ADSL (broadband) you will NOT need a dial-up modem. You will use the ADSL modem either connected to the Ethernet network connection (preferred) or to a USB port.
You won't need a dial-up modem unless you will have a requirement to send and/or receive faxes. In that case, just buy an internal PCI modem and install it yourself or if you don't feel qualified take it to a local PC shop to have it installed.
