Help if possible

I have a dell xps 400. I had a problem with the system where it wouldnt load the o.s so i went out and bought a new hard drive installed windows xp on it the previous harddrive is said to be corrupt. so my first question is how do i go about fixing that and turning that into a slave drive. and my second is with the harddrive installed i lost all of my drivers for the internet. im on another pc wondering what i can do to fix these problems.

Make sure your old hard drive is set to Cable Select or Slave and connect it to empty IDE or SATA connector.

Download your drivers for you internet on your other PC and put the software on a flash drive and take over to your 2nd PC.

How do I go about switching the drive over to slave. I dont know if I conect to the system if it will transfer the problem over to the new harddrive. My warenty expired in august so I can not use the dell tech chat to get information on to fix this. Is there a guide i can use and if I connect the old drive to system board via the sata connector will it transfer the corruption over to new harddrive.

Also I have the basic dell soundcard that comes with the pc but I have no sound I need to know driver to install on my pc.

    Thanks,

If you require detailed instructions, post this question on the Desktop -> Hard Drive forum or Notebooks -> Hard Drive forum depending on which you have.
